Orienteering

Orienteering – Haywood Plantation

Haywood Plantation is a thin mixed plantation of broadleaves, larch and pine. It has a natural regeneration of ash, elm and thorn. The rides and tracks are cut annually. This plantation lies about 100m to the north of Coalport YHA and the China Museum. There are 3 entrances with kissing gates off the Silkin Way, a multi-user path between the Plantation and Coalport grassland.

Orienteering is an excellent outdoor activity for practising and improving map reading skills whether as an individual, family or group. The permanent orienteering trail has 12 controls with red and white disks set within Haywood Plantation and Coalport grassland. The map and controls are found on the downloadable PDF below. The controls, numbered 1-12, also have letters and can be completed in any format.
