Nick Downes

My name is Nick Downes, and I am a councillor for Barrow Parish, a rural parish between Broseley and Much Wenlock. I represent Barrow Parish on the Seven Gorge Countryside Trust, a position I have held for more than a decade. I am the current Vice Chair of SGCT.

I am married with two children and am a partner in a small family retail business in Broseley, where I have worked for 27 years.I was born and bred in the Broseley area and still live in the beautiful countryside of Barrow Parish.

My family background was in farming and I feel most at home in the rural environment. I feel what I have to offer as a Trustee is a knowledge of how small businesses work, and how using local trades people can enhance mutual understanding of how to get the best results, both for the Trust and contractors.I have an affinity with nature and really appreciate all that the trust does to manage and improve its lands and structures.

As a councillor, shopkeeper and a Trustee on two organisations for many years I believe I am able to communicate well with people either formally or informally at all levels.

My busy life means I cannot always give as much time as I would like to the Trust but as well as Vice Chair I’m also on the Personnel Committee and conduct an internal audit annually. I feel part of the Trust’s team and hope to continue for many more years.
