Repairs to the historic Ropewalk wall in Coalbrookdale have been taking place over the last month. The wall is all that remains of the deer park enclosure c1750. Annual inspections are carried out and at the last one our structural engineer, Julie Holmes from Mid West Planning advised us that several areas of the wall needed repairs. Luke Unsworth from Unsworth Stone Masonry has re-pointed the crease course, replaced and re-bedded loose bricks and stitched a crack that had formed with spiral ties. Lime mortar has been used to carry out the repairs as this ‘breathes’ and also allows a certain amount of flexibility in the structure. The wall will continue to be monitored and any additional repairs will be undertaken when necessary.
