Work by contractors working for Telford & Wrekin Council has begun to install piles into the grassland which we manage in front of Maws Craft Centre using a very heavy piling machine. This has required them to build a pile corridor temporary road and the digging has, as expected shown the huge amount of old ceramic waste under the ground which reflects the long history of china making in the locality. The intention of the piles, as we understand it, is to provide a long term protected area should the riverbank severely erode back across the grassland. All this is part of a very complex £17 million Jackfield Land Stablisation Project being managed by Telford & Wrekin Council, who are doing a very good job protecting the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site from a series of historic landslides.
